UAE National Day: Trade With Ghana Increases From $2.5bn to $5.3bn in 2023


The United Arab Emirates has celebrated its National Day at its Embassy in Accra. The day is a celebration of the unification of the seven states of the Gulf nation. The UAE Embassy in Ghana celebrates the day every year.

Present at the event were Second Lady Samira Bawumia, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, and members of the Diplomatic Corps among others.

Speaking at the event, the UAE Ambassador to Ghana, Amer Al Alawi said there was an increase in trade between the UAE and Ghana in 2023. He says it increased from $2.5 billion last year to $5.3 billion this year.

”Last year, I proudly announced our 2022 trade value which was $2.5 billion but this year, we are recording a double of this number which is $5.3 billion,” he said.

From November 28th, the United Arab Emirates will be hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 28. The Ambassador says the United Arab Emirates is excited to host the important event.

“In a few days, my country is hosting the COP 28, and it will open its arms widely to welcome everyone from all over the world”.

Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery commended the UAE government for its commitment towards the fight against climate change.

He said, “I wish to commend the government of UAE for showing constant commitment to climate change mitigation issues through leading initiatives and for being the first among the Middle Eastern nations to ratify the Paris Agreement.”

He also thanked the UAE government for its support and assistance to Ghana. He listed some of the assistance as the numerous philanthropic projects in the country with emphasis on the construction of four new hospitals in Tema, Nkoranza, Dormaa and the Central Medical Storage facility at a total cost of AED 540 million.

Businessman and philanthropist, Nana Kwame Bediako entreated Africa to learn from the unification of the seven states of the Gulf nation, adding there is strength in unity.

The Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, the UAE Ambassador to Ghana cut the cake to mark the occasion.
