PYONGYANG, SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea on Wednesday criticized U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s recent visit to Beijing as a “begging trip” aimed at easing tensions, saying its policy of putting pressure on China had failed.
In one of the most important U.S.-China exchanges since U.S. President Joe Biden took office, Blinken and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Monday and agreed to stabilize their bitter rivalry so it doesn’t turn into a conflict, Reuters reported.
Blinken said after the meeting on Monday that he urged China to encourage North Korea to stop launching missiles because Beijing has a “unique position” in pressing Pyongyang for dialogue.
In a commentary published by North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency, Jong Yong Hak, known as an international affairs analyst, said the rare visit was aimed at begging for a de-escalation of tensions because “attempts to pressure and contain China may Become a boomerang and deal a fatal blow to the U.S. economy.”
The commentary said: “All in all, the recent visit of the US Secretary of State can only be a shameful begging trip for the provocateur to admit that the policy of pressure on China has failed.”
According to the commentary, the United States is responsible for the “anti-China complex” escalating regional tensions, such as the “Quadruple Security Dialogue” QUAD with Japan, India and Australia, and the “Australia-UK-U.S. Trilateral Security Partnership” (AUKUS) agreement with the United Kingdom and Australia.
The commentary said: “Taking provocation first and then talking about the so-called ‘responsible management and control of differences’ is the extreme of double-dealing and rudeness unique to the United States.”
According to Yonhap News Agency, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kritten Brinker (Kang Da in Chinese), who accompanied Blinken on his visit to Beijing, is expected to visit South Korea on Wednesday to introduce the two-day China talks to Seoul officials. Condition.
The Yonhap News Agency pointed out that the analysis believes that the US sent a senior official at the level of Krittenbrink to explain the results of the US-China talks instead of through ordinary diplomatic channels, reflecting its willingness to closely share and coordinate with the South Korean side in the direction of its diplomacy with China. Krittenbrink is expected to meet with his South Korean counterpart, Deputy Foreign Minister Bu (Assistant Minister) Choi Young-san and others.
